The Lifestyle

Kundabung's lifestyle is relaxed and laid back.  There is plenty of room to move and there are lifestyle acreages as well as the serious farming properties.  The small residential blocks enjoy a feeling of space as they benefit from their close proximity to the larger properties and/or native bushland next to them.

There are many dirt roads and forestry trails to ride the horse, pushbike or to take the dog for a run.  These dirt roads often cross small creeks and shaded gullies.  Kangaroos are frequently seen and heard bounding away through the bush and sometimes the occasional shy echidna is encountered.

Quail, black cockatoos, rosellas, blue herons, blue wrens and a multitude of other bird species either live in or frequent the area.  The native Brushtail, ringtail and pigmy possums, sugar gliders also make their homes here.  Even the brush tailed phascogale has been seen.  Goannas, blue tongue lizards and dragons can be seen doing their bit to keep the bug population in check.  The greatest danger to their well being is land clearing and cats.

Kundabung Reserve

A small reserve nestled on the shady bank of Pipers Creek.  There are picnic tables, a toilet, a small boat ramp and a rope swing for swinging into the creek on a hot day.  The creek is tidal although the water is mostly fresh water not salt.  Water lilies and other types of hardy lilies hug the tree lined creek.  It is a great spot for a picnic, canoeing, fishing for bass or just leisurely exploring the creek in a small dingy or canoe.

Convict Lime Kilns (circa 1832)

There are the remnants of two limestone kilns in two separate locations.  The kilns are difficult to detect unless you know exactly where they are.  Once a year tours are held by the National Parks and Wildlife Service Guides for groups of about 10 people and bookings are essential.  The Macleay River Historical Society Inc sometimes conducts history tours that take in the lime kilns, railway and wharf.  For further information contact:

Tennis Courts and Community Hall

The hall hosts yoga and dancing classes and various social events such a Christmas event for children and a Halloween night.  The hall can be hired for events and the contact number is 6561 5003. The community hall is where you go to cast your vote on polling day. The tennis courts are used by the Tennis Club and newcomers are welcome.

Location

The tennis courts and community hall are on the east side of the railway line.  Turn off the Pacific Highway and into Kundabung Road.  Follow it past the timber mill and to the end the road where it veers off to the right and over the railway line's level crossing - so care is needed to check for trains before crossing. For more information about the activities held at the hall go the the Events/Activities page.
